Dmanisi dates back to about the 6th century, and the fortress dates back to a century later. This was the last city that David the Builder won during the unification of the country.
The city fell into decay during the Mongol invasion. During the excavation of the city, skeletons of Homo Georgius were found, which actually made the city famous.
?? In summer there is an open-air museum, in winter the exhibits hibernate in the state museum in Tbilisi and you can see the church, the fortress, and the secret tunnel along which you can go down to the river. ?? ??
